The process of applying plant dyes to textiles is by its nature slow, it cannot be rushed. There is only a certain amount of pieces I can dye and list in any given month. The fibres need to be scoured, the dye baths need to be created, depending on the dyes sometimes the fibres need to be mordanted, and everything needs to be soaked fully before being added to the dye pots. Dyeing the pieces is only a small part of the process. Sometimes it takes a day to dye & sometimes its takes a few days to get the colour just right. Once all this is completed, pieces are washed, dried, photographed & packaged. With that in mind, I will be taking more time with the pieces I dye to slow down and appreciate the process. Over the next few months I will be experimenting with new plants, in the hopes of broadening & deepening my understanding of this incredible process. It is my hope that the time I take to appreciate this ancient practice will be reflected in the textiles I dye. With that in mind I should be updating the shop in the Spring.
