- We'll start with making dye bath, extracting colour & then you'll dye your swatches. You'll learn about natural dyes & how to make strong colours. Then we make things really exciting by adding simple ingredients that shift & change your colours to expand the palettes available to you.
- In the second part of the workshop, you'll learn how to make watercolour paints from your dyes. You'll explore how to make various colours from one simple dye & create a stunning range of paints.
- With your textiles dyed & paints made, next you'll get to document what you've learnt by adding your work to a dye journal of handmade paper. We'll spend time documenting the process in a way that is unique to your unique creative taste & style.
I'll supply the essentials, you supply the equipment! Shortly before the workshop, you'll receive a workshop kit containing:
- Fabric swatches
- Paper swatches
- Dye powders
- Palette expanders
- Handmade paper notebook
- 2-3 small pots (don't worry if you don't have 3, we can work with what you have!)
- 3-4 paint brushes
- Pencil + eraser
- Something to mix your paints on (a plate will work)
- The workshop will be hosted on zoom, recorded & available for you to rewatch. If something comes up & you can't make it, get interrupted (that never happens :), or want to re-watch at your convenience, the workshop will be hosted for 2 weeks from the workshop date.
