Plant Dyed Scarf in Weld
This Cotton scarf has been dyed by hand using Weld ( Reseda Luteola L.) a biennial dye, with long spikes and small pale yellow flowers. One of the oldest dye plants used in Europe, it grew in the south of Sweden, North Africa, West Asia, Britain & parts of Europe. Apparently the Romans used weld to dye the ancient robes of the vestal virgins in Roman times.
