New Online Workshops in Natural Dyeing

New Online Workshops in Natural Dyeing

I have just added a few online workshops to the calendar. For those of you not based in Ireland, these workshops will be a great way to step into about natural dyeing or develop your skills as a natural dyer.

The first workshop is for beginners, set over two days, we will cover everything you need to know to get started with natural dyeing. We will cover all the basics in tools and equipment, the different types of fibres & how to prepare your fabrics or fibres for the dye pot. We will look at mordanting, seasonal dye plants & colours, extracting dye and dyeing your fibres. By the end of the workshop you will understand the process and how to start dyeing your fibres or textiles confidently.

The second workshop is a new addition & I'm excited to share it with you. This class is also spread over two days, covers all the basics of mordanting and modifying to expand your palette, deepen your understanding & grow your skills as a natural dyer.

Mordanting is an essential step in the process of natural dyeing. Mordants help bind the dye to the fibre and help increase the longevity of your plant dyes. When used correctly, mordants can change your dye colours, expand your palette and open up a world of possibilities with natural colour.

There are a variety of mordants you can begin to incorporate into your dye practice. In this 2 day workshop we will look at metallic salt mordants and plant based mordants, we will look at which ones to use and what to expect when you combine them with you dye colours. We will also look at creating prints, patterns and paint using traditional mordants.

This class is for anyone who has taken my introduction to natural dyeing workshop & suited to those wanting to increase their knowledge, confidence and skills as a natural dyer.

If you are not sure which workshop is right for you, I would recommend the Natural dyeing for beginners if you are starting out and Expanding your palette & mordanting  if you have tried some natural dyeing and have a very basic knowledge of how to scouring, mordanting & extracting your dye.

I have a few dates for both workshops so hopefully you will be able to find a class to suit your needs. If you have any questions please feel free to get in touch.
