All the colours above were made from dye plants sourced from kitchen waste or locally sourced plants. Nature is truly incredible!
After almost 2 years, I am delighted (understatement) to be offering in-person workshops again. Now that Covid restrictions are finally easing here in Dublin, I have two dates on the calendar for the month of October. I won't be teaching again until the Spring so if you've been thinking about coming to a class now's a good time.
The workshops will cover everything you need to know to get started and build your confidence as a natural dyer. We will look at equipment & process, I'll talk about how to prepare your fibres for the dye baths. I will explain the importance of mordanting & the different types of mordants. I'll be gathering seasonal dye plants for us to work with. You'll have the opportunity to create the baths, extract the dye & dye your fibres. I'll also show you how expand your palette by modifying colours using naturally sourced ingredients.
We will be working with dyes that are available in our kitchens, gardens & neighbourhoods. I will provide everything you need to explore & document the process through swatches and a dye journal.
The process of extracting natural colour from dye sources & applying this to textiles is a deeply enjoyable and satisfying processes that lends itself to many other creative disciplines. If you have any questions about the workshop please feel free to get in touch & I look forward to welcoming you to my studio x
